YS Jagan Reddy has demanded President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh, alleging violence and attacks on opposition candidates during municipal election nominations.
Jagan accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s government of misusing the police and targeting YSRCP candidates. He alleged that nomination papers were torn, candidates were prevented from filing nominations, and party leaders were attacked at nomination centres.
He also claimed that three YSRCP MPs were attacked while helping candidates file their nominations. Jagan cited incidents in several places, including Kadapa, Pulivendula, Tirupati, Punganur and Rajampet.
Jagan urged the Centre to intervene and impose President’s Rule in the state over the alleged violence.
Meanwhile, Jagan is reportedly still in Bengaluru and is expected to return to Andhra Pradesh today. His absence during the ongoing nomination process has also drawn attention.
The municipal election contest is shaping up as the ruling alliance and YSRCP compete for key positions. The extent to which the opposition can field candidates across the state remains an important factor in the election battle.
