Former MP V Vijayasai Reddy has brought the Kamma-Kapu angle into the Vijayawada mayoral elections while targeting Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. His latest comments focus on the political positions of Vangaveeti Radha and retired IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao.
Sai Reddy alleged that Chandrababu had sent Kapu leader Vangaveeti Radha to Jana Sena while backing Kamma leader ABV as an independent candidate. He also questioned the support extended to ABV by the Congress, CPI and CPM.
However, political observers point out that ABV has reportedly had differences with the Andhra Pradesh government. They question how Chandrababu could be backing him in the mayoral race when such differences are already being discussed publicly.
Meanwhile, Vangaveeti Radha, who recently joined Jana Sena after being associated with TDP, is also in the contest. Some observers believe his political background and the NDA alliance’s support could work in his favour.
Interestingly, Sai Reddy has increasingly referred to caste and regional equations in his political comments in recent times.
The mayoral contest features Radha from Jana Sena, R. Bhagya Lakshmi from YSRCP and AB Venkateswara Rao as an independent candidate backed by Left parties.
