Peaks Of TN Poll Promises: Chopper, 1 Cr Deposit & Tour To Moon

Tamil Nadu, the pioneer in announcing freebies as poll promises to voters, is witnessing a plethora of gadgets on offer by political aspirants, ahead of the Assembly elections.

After mixer-grinders, refrigerators, air coolers, government jobs, Tamilians found a completely different set of things and services on offer from an MLA aspirant.

Tulam Saravanan, an independent MLA candidate contesting from South Madurai, took the voters by surprise when he announced that he would grant a mini-helicopter, annual deposit of Rs 1 crore, gold jewellery for weddings, three-storeyed house and also an opportunity to tour the moon, if voted to power.

His poll manifesto is attracting the voters, specially the women, as he also promised to grant a robot that would perform household chores, a boat for every household, a 300-ft high snow mountain, a space research centre and a rocket launch pad. The voters are wondering if these promises would ever materialise.

Clarifying about the promises in his manifesto, Saravanan said that political parties were trying to bribe the voters in the name of freebies. My aim is to create awareness among the people about the freebies and how they would derail the economy. I made costly promises only to make people know what all politicians can put on offer. None of the promises I included in the manifesto are practical. People should learn to elect good leaders.”

He lamented that none of the political parties were really striving for the welfare of the people. Political leaders are cheating the people by showering money on them, he said.

Even netizens have a feeling that the aim of Saravanan’s manifesto is to mock at political parties announcing freebies to voters.
