Statistics: Only 75% Indians May Get Vaccinated By 2024

The biggest and curious question right now that is scaring all of us out of our wits is when can the whole of India get vaccinated. The vaccination time can be the difference between the life and death of millions of people in India. Though India is called the “Pharmacy of the world”, we are currently struggling to vaccinate our own people on Covid.

In many developed countries, the vaccination crossed key milestones and here, India is still struggling to get the basics right. The point is why are we facing this petrified situation. At the current pace and rate, India will vaccinate only 75 per cent of the population by mid-2024.

Of course, if we witness several companies of vaccines available in the market by then, things would speed up. But, so far, the lethargic pace of inoculation in the country may last till the middle of 2024, even if it has to fully vaccinate one billion out of 1.36 billion Indians.

In other words, the current average rate of Covid-19 vaccination in the country has been 10.8 million per week. I this pace continues, it will take till December 2024 to complete 2 billion doses. In fact, last year, many health experts have warned the same.

Adar Poonawalla, chief executive of the Serum Institute of India, has warned that not enough Covid-19 vaccines will be available for everyone in the world to be inoculated until the end of 2024 at the earliest. The probability lies if all companies start manufacturing vaccines India, then the nation will have sufficient vaccines to vaccinate its 1.3billion people in just a few months.

But, the companies who know the formula to manufacture vaccine in the world (got by spending billions on research), are unwilling to share it with other companies, fearing the revenue loss and loss of big earning opportunities. Until 2024, the fatality rate and recurrence of devastating waves can be considered as a prescient warning. The current pace of 16 lakhs a day undeniably takes 3 and half years to vaccinate the whole of India. Or else, India needs a miraculous vaccination swiftness of 10 times to what the inoculation is now.
