The Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association (T-JUDA) have called for a strike starting from today owing to the promises made by the Telangana government which are yet to be fulfilled. The junior doctors at all medical colleges and teaching hospitals have boycotted services including all non-COVID electives except emergencies.
At Gandhi hospital, junior doctors were seen holding placards and demanded the government to address their concerns immediately. Speaking to the media one of the junior doctors said, since the pandemic, 126 of us have got infected and it affected our families too. What we are demanding from the government is the rightful compensation for our services.
“As per 2018 G.O., for every two years, we should receive a hike of 15 percent. Last year in January our hike was stalled citing the pandemic and considering the situation we did not go for a strike then but we made silent representation to the government. At least now the government has to react to our concerns and also implement the 10 percent incentive that was announced by CM KCR himself,” said Junior Doctors.
However, it appears that the Telangana government is not pleased with the strike of junior doctors. Minister KTR has reacted to the strike and asked the junior doctors to end the strike with immediate effect. “This is not the time to go for a strike, if not we would take action against protesting junior doctors. Simultaneously the government is considering the demands placed,” said KTR.
It’s a sad state to see junior doctors protesting despite their hard efforts over the last 365 days. Let’s hope the government would hold talks with them at the earliest.
