The Allahabad High Court clarified that a daughter-in-law is not legally bound to maintain her parents-in-law under Section 144 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The court said the law places the responsibility primarily on children, not daughters-in-law. The ruling came while hearing a maintenance plea filed by elderly parents seeking financial support.
