Everest Scam: Trekkers ‘Poisoned’ for Insurance Money

A shocking scam has surfaced around Mount Everest, where guides allegedly poisoned trekkers’ food to trigger fake medical emergencies. Investigators say substances like baking soda were mixed into meals to cause illness, forcing tourists to accept costly helicopter rescues. Around 32 people, including guides and operators, have been charged in a fraud that reportedly generated nearly $20 million in insurance claims.
