T20 World Cup: India Thrashes Scotland In A One-sided Affair

Finally, Team India has found its groove in the T20 World Cup. But is it too late? We don’t know yet because India’s fate now depends on the result of the New Zealand vs Afghanistan match. Keeping that aside, Virat Kohli’s men got their second win of the tournament tonight in the match held against Scotland. Once again, it was an all-around performance by the team which resulted in a comprehensive victory.

Virat won the toss for the first time in the league and elected to bowl first. His plan worked out well as Indian bowlers troubled Scottish batters right from the beginning. Bumrah (2/10), Shami (3/15) and Jadeja (3/15) have put impeccable performances that suffocated the opponent’s batting lineup. As a result, Scotland got all-out for just 85 runs in 17.4 overs. Opener George Munsey (24) remained the highest scorer for them.

Team India needed to chase the target within 7.1 overs in order to make their Net Run Rate better than that of Afghanistan and New Zealand. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came with a plan and started hammering the Scottish bowlers from the first over.

Especially, Rahul has put on a crackling show. The duo made a partnership of 70 runs for the first wicket. Rohit (30) got out when India was on the shores of victory. Soon, Rahul (50) also got out after completing his 18-ball half-century.

In the end, Kohli and Surya Kumar Yadav finished things for India and helped the team in scoring a total of 89/2 in 6.3 overs.

India’s Net Run-Rate is now +1.619, which is better than Afghanistan (+1.481) and New Zealand (+1.277). Now, India needs to beat Namibia by a huge margin and Afghanistan needs to beat New Zealand in a close match. Then, Virat Kohli and co. will cruise into semifinals.
