Cricket Is Out Of provisional list of 2028 Olympics

International Cricket Council (ICC) was trying hard to get cricket included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. However, the board faced a setback because cricket is not included in the provisional list of the 28 sports which are recommended to be inducted in the 2028 Olympics.

Cricket was included in the event only once, during the 1900 Paris Olympics. At that time, cricket was played between only two countries.

Meanwhile, an ICC spokesperson said that this move was completely expected. Speaking to the Time of India, the spokesperson stated, “Our ambition for cricket to become an Olympic sport has not changed knowing we face stiff competition from a number of other great sports.”

“Cricket was never going to be on the initial sports list and the host city process to pick additional sports starts next year, and cricket will put its case forward as part of that process,” the spokesperson further added.

The only other time where cricket was featured in a multi-sports event was in the 1998 Common Wealth Games. Meanwhile, cricket will make a comeback in Common Wealth Games next year in the form of the Women’s T20 Challenge.

Apart from cricket, the other prominent games which were excluded from the provisional list are Boxing, Weightlifting and Pentathlon.
