Team India is gearing up to face New Zealand in the big final of the Champions Trophy today. Both teams are locking horns in a Champions Trophy final after a gap of 25 years. The last time India faced New Zealand in a Champions Trophy final was in 2000 (it was called the ICC KnockOut Trophy).
However, Sourav Ganguly’s team lost to Fleming’s Kiwi team in the final, which was held in Nairobi, Kenya. Batting first, India scored 264/6 in 50 overs. Though openers Ganguly (117) and Sachin Tendulkar (69) made strong starts, the rest of the batters failed to capitalize on the initial momentum.
New Zealand struggled to chase this total, losing 5 wickets for just 132 runs. When India’s win seemed inevitable, Chris Cairns and Chris Harris made a stunning partnership of 122 runs, leading their team to their first ICC trophy victory.
Now, after a gap of 25 years, Rohit Sharma and co. will seek revenge. Hopefully, they will lift the title, making billions of Indians’ dreams come true.
