India Out Of Asia Cup, What’s Up?

Due to the recent military and geopolitical tensions with Pakistan, it is reported that India decided not to host or participate in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. India was supposed to host the tournament this year, along with Sri Lanka. Reports also suggest that the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, which was supposed to be held in Sri Lanka, has also been cancelled due to the Indo-Pak conflict.

A final decision regarding India’s participation in the Asia Cup will be made upcoming ACC (Asian Cricket Council) meeting, headed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Meanwhile, we hear that the BCCI has already informed the ACC that India will neither host nor take part in the Asia Cup. Reportedly, as India pulled back, the tournament may get cancelled or scrapped altogether. Also, the financial losses would be borne by the current ACC president, Mohsin Naqvi.

Asia Cup 2025 was scheduled to be held in September this year, as a preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The tournament would have featured at least two India-Pak matches, and also possibly the finals. India was the defending champions, having won the Asia Cup 2023.

Not only in the Asia Cup, but India is planning not to play any game against Pakistan in the ICC tournaments as well. But we have to see how things pan out if India decides the same. Already, India has stopped playing Pakistan in bilateral series since the 2012-13 season.
