The Indian bowling department got largely depleted for the ongoing ODI series against South Africa as the likes of Jaspreet Bumrah and Varun Chakravarty are not available for the same. This clearly showed an impact on the Indian bowling lineup in the first ODI and let us have a brief look into the same.
India was largely shorthanded when it comes to the fast department, despite the promising start where South Africa was confined to 11-3. But the inability to pick the wickets in the middle phase nearly costed the team.
All these years, Bumrah was the bowler who could bring India back into the game, regardless of whatever situation the game is. He kept piling pressure on the batsmen who ultimately yielded either to himself or other bowlers. But without his services, India looked largely clueless in the middle portion.
It is evident that bowling is becoming a big weakness for India in big team tournaments, and this could get further exploited in the upcoming series against Australia and England.
If the bowling unit is struggling even in home bilateral series, one can only imagine what might happen in major tournaments where a single mistake can cost the game.
For now, the expectation is that the return of Jaspreet Bumrah would solve the bowling issues. But even then, India is now in a position where they have to find another gun bowler who can complement Bumrah and even lead in his absence.
