Man Swallowed Mobile, Undergoes Complex Surgery

Firstly, let’s start by stating the obvious; please DO NOT swallow your cell phone. Even if your phone looks cute and nice, nothing good comes from eating consumer electronics.

In a bizarre incident, a 33-year-old man swallowed an entire Nokia 3310 cellphone and underwent an emergency life-saving surgery. The process was indeed a complex one as it became lodged in his stomach and was tricky to remove. However, Dr Skender Telaku succeeded in removing the device out safely.

The man hails from Pristina in Kosovo and the phone he swallowed is an early 2000s model made by the former Finnish company, popularly known as the ‘brick’ phone.

Initially, when the man underwent a scan, the doctors found the phone was ‘too large for him to digest’ and was posing a threat to his life. And no way, the medical team can remove the phone by pulling it up through his esophagus, forceps, and snare-like devices, as they couldn’t align the phone correctly to get it out of the stomach.

Finally he was operated and Dr Teljaku shared photos of the phone on Facebook, and the X-Ray and endoscopy images while it was inside the man’s belly. “When we did a scan on him, we noticed that the phone had split into three parts,” Dr Talaku told.

The doctor further told that the battery was the main concern as it could have potentially exploded in the man’s stomach. It is yet to be known the reason behind the man’s idea of swallowing a phone. Kudos to the doctor and medical team for removing the device in a span of two hours. This is not a novelty as many people in the past swallowed phones.
