Karnataka’s Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar made insensitive comments against Indian women and they are receiving huge criticism from every corner. Marking the occasion of World Mental Health Day, minister Sudhakar was the guest at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences (NIMHANS).
“Today, I am sorry to say this, lots of modern women in India want to stay single. Even if they get married, they don’t want to give birth. They want surrogacy,” said the minister.
The minister Sudhakar blamed the western influence for this attitude of ‘modern’ Indian women and added unfortunately it is happening in the country.
“We don’t want our parents to live with us, forget about grandparents being with us,” said minister Sudhakar.
These comments were not well received on social media and many female journos, authors and others have slammed the minister Sudhakar.
Journalist Faye DSouza tweeted, “Ah! The modern woman of India, source of all problems. If only women would marry and stay at home we would solve unemployment, poverty, petrol and LPG prices, lack of hospital beds, potholed roads, electricity shortage, crime and hunger,” in response to the minister’s comments.
On public platforms, such statements should be avoided by politicians and they rake up unwanted controversies which only result in the downfall of reputation of the individual.
