US: Omicron Cases To Surge Between Christmas & New Year

The Covid-19 cases in the US have been growing in a large number across the country. This number is expected to see new highs by the new year’s holiday weekend.

The average number of new covid-19 cases each day is 198,000 according to Sunday data which is 47 percent higher than that of last week and also this is the highest number since January 19.

According to CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner, the number could be more than double and around a half a million cases might be registered in a day, sometime over the next 10 days. More than 71,000 were hospitalized on Sunday.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said we are certainly going to continue to see a surge with the Omicron variant. He further says the small gatherings of fully vaccinated people will be safe and the large gatherings where we do not know the vaccination status of all guests might be dangerous.

Meanwhile, New York City brings on the vaccine mandate after the state registered 49,708 new Covid-19 cases on Christmas eve. Effective Monday, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio decided to implement a vaccine mandate for private-sector employees.

Children ages 5 to 11 in New York are now required to show proof of at least one shot before being allowed to indoor dining, fitness, or entertainment venues, while adults must show proof of two vaccinations.
