Since March 22nd, the services of Hyderabad Metro have been suspended. It’s been four months now, still there is no permit for Metro to resume the operations and as a result Hyderabad Metro has incurred a huge loss of Rs 200 crore.
Despite no operations, maintenance of trains, salaries of employees is costing Rs 50 crore every month to Hyderabad Metro. As the losses are piling up, the higher authorities have written to the Telangana government to support them financially.
The resumption of metro is in the hands of Centre and in its last orders, the Centre has deferred the operations till July 31st. The Centre might not allow metro to operate even after the given date as COVID-19 new cases are reporting in large numbers every day. Experts predicted that the influence of COVID-19 could be at peak in August which means Hyderabad Metro will go into further losses.
The Telangana government is yet to respond on Hyderabad Metro’s letter and it will be a tough decision for KCR government to support Metro.
