US: Record-High Number Of COVID-19 Cases

The COVID-19 cases in the US are increasing at a scary number each day. There are many states seeing a big surge in the number of cases in the US South and Southwest and there are other states which are reversing their reopening plans.

The new hotspots are California, Florida, Arizona, and Texas, while the previous epicenters New York and New Jersey are planning on adding more states from South in their guidelines if visiting from those states. US’s top infectious disease doctor Dr. Anthony Fauci said the expected new cases on a day were 20,000 but the cases are going beyond 60K every day.

The country recorded a huge 67,417 new cases on Tuesday and as on today, there are more than 3.4 million infected people and almost 38 states have seen an increase in the number of new cases since last week.

Dr. Fauci compares the current crisis to the 1918 flu pandemic which killed more than 50 million people across the world and more than 675,000 cases in the US.

For now, with the big surge in new cases, Costco, Best Buy, Starbucks have made the face-covering mask mandatory for its customers and the latest to join them is the world’s largest retailer Walmart. Walmart will require all customers to wear masks from July 20.
