Worst Hit Maharashtra Lifts All Covid-19 Restrictions

The state of Maharashtra was the worst hit of Covid-19. During the first and second wave, the state nearly reported a lakh cases daily and over a lakh people died of the virus. But in a shocking decision, the state government has decided to lift all the Covid-19 restrictions from April 2nd which happens to be Maharashtra’s New Year i.e, Gudi Padava.

Before taking the decision, the state cabinet met under the chairmanship of CM Uddhav Thackeray. The cabinet approved lifting Covid-19 curbs and mask is not mandatory.

“We can’t say that Covid has been eradicated, I request that people wear masks. Wearing a mask will be a choice, it won’t be mandatory anymore,” said Maharashtra health minister. According to the health department, over 78 Lakh were infected of Covid-19 in the last two years and 1.47 Lakh people have died from the state.

West Bengal and New Delhi are the other states that are considering the same option of lifting Covid-19 restrictions and soon other states may follow the pursuit.
