We are in 2020 yet the untouchability and community ban based on caste basis still exists in our society. Every now and then some incidents make the headlines and yet another shameful act is reported.
In Odisha, an aged man had passed away and for the last rites, none from the village came forward for help. It is reported in Lankabahal village of Bolangir district and the visuals of this incident have gone viral on the internet.
The victim is identified as Akhaya Patra and his family belongs to a lower caste. He passed away the other day and as they did not get any help from villagers, Akhaya’s son had tied his father’s corpse in a cloth and carried it to the crematorium on bicycle.
This is an inhumane incident and as a society we need to bow down our heads in disgrace.
Shockingly the Collector of Bolangir district made strange comments that Akhaya’s son did not ask for any help. But he would get help from the state government.
