Chandrayaan-3 Live Stream Breaks YouTube Records

Everything people watch a large number of times on YouTube creates some sort of record of when it is most viewed or liked. And then, none expected that a video that doesn’t belong to either the entertainment or sports category would create a sensational record now.

The live stream of India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission to the moon has broken the record for the most-watched live stream on YouTube. The stream, which was hosted on the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) YouTube channel, had over 8 million concurrent viewers at its peak.

The previous record was held by the live stream of the Brazil vs. South Korea football match during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which had 6.15 million peak viewers. The Chandrayaan-3 live stream also surpassed the viewership of other major live events, such as the SpaceX Crew Demo (4.08 million viewers) and the BTS Butter music video premiere (3.75 million viewers).

The high viewership of the Chandrayaan-3 livestream is a testament to the global interest in space exploration and India’s conquest in that arena. The mission was India’s third lunar mission, and it marked the country’s first attempt to soft-land a lander on the moon’s south pole. The successful landing was a major accomplishment for ISRO and a source of pride for the Indian people.

In addition to the high viewership, the Chandrayaan-3 livestream also received a lot of positive feedback from viewers. Many people were impressed by the technical quality of the stream and the way that ISRO communicated with the public.
