Coronavirus: New Variant JN1 Kills Five In India

The Coronavirus is not completely gone. The Omicron variant cases have gone down, but the virus has taken a new form in the variant ‘JN1’ and is spreading in the country.

The new variant JN1 alarmed health officials and people in the USA, and it is now spreading in India. The first case of the JN1 variant was detected in the United States of America in September and seven similar cases in China. The first case of this subvariant was detected in India on December 8th in Kerala.

A 78-year-old lady was infected with this Omicron subvariant and had mild symptoms. The health officials considered it to be equivalent to the BA2.86 variant, but it taking four lives in Kerala and one in UP alerted the governments.

Kerala has been seeing a rise in the new variant cases. More than 38 countries have detected cases with the new variant KN1. The central government issued precautionary orders to the states. The orders include the rigorous RTCPR tests and Genome Sequence tests to identify the variant.
