One more man ends life due to wife’s torture

Mohit Yadav, a field engineer belonging to Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh, died by suicide after recording a video in which he blamed his wife and in-laws for his death.

He rued that there were no laws to protect men from the harassment by women. The spate of suicides by husbands due to torture by wives has been increasing in the recent past.

Though he married Priya, after being in a relationship for seven long years, their relationship was strained. In the video, Mohit alleged that he was facing threats and false cases against him filed by his in-laws. Finally, he suggested that his ashes be thrown into the drain if justice was not done to him even after his death.

The 33-yr-old engineer working in a cement company was found hanging in a room at Jolly Hotel, near the Etawah railway station. A couple of months ago, Priya secured a private teaching job in Bihar. At this time, she was a pregnant but her mother got the baby aborted. Mohit, in the video, alleged that his mother-in-law also kept all his wife’s jewellery with her.

Mohit said that he did not demand any dowry during marriage but his wife and her family threatened him of implicating him in a dowry case if he did not register his house and property in Priya’s name. Mohit said that Priya’s father Manoj Kumar filed a false complaint while her brother threatened to kill him.

In the wake of a rise in such incidents, the authorities should contemplate to frame some strict rules that could provide safety and protection to husbands in the families.
