Indian-origin Couple’s Honeymoon to Switzerland Turns Nightmare

An India-origin couple’s honeymoon to Europe which was supposed to be a sweet memory has left them with bitter experience and medical complications. According to a report published in HT.com, Nikita and Karan, living in Canada, said that they were brutally attacked by one of the hotel staff member during their stay at Seehotel Schwert in Switzerland in June.

Assault In Hotel

Nikita, belonging to Mumbai, recalled how their dream trip had to be cut short due to the assault by the hotel staff which left them with permanent jaw damage and dental injuries. She said that she had lost one tooth completely and 11 other teeth got damaged. She also has TMJ damage and also underwent a series of dental procedures. She said she will never regain full function of her jaws.

The ruckus between the couple and the hotel staff started off over a fan. The couple checked in at the hotel on June 19, where they noticed their room had no air conditioning or fan, despite the heat. When they questioned, the staff arranged a small fan, and then rented another from a nearby shop. Tension mounted the next day when the staff member allegedly removed the hotel’s fan without informing them. When they tried to question the reception people that night, a staff member reached their room but behaved badly with them, calling them ‘stupid’.

Reportedly, the assault took place on the day of checkout. Nikita claims she was attacked at the breakfast area, when she had gone to pick fruit. The staffer who came to their room the last night came running towards her but he stopped after seeing Karan enter the room. The couple claimed that there were incidents where the staff ‘insulted’ them due to discrimination, because all the other guests were speaking German and were white.

Recalling the incident that led to her injury, she said that an old came up very close to her husband’s face and that she felt he would hit Karan. Sensing danger, Nikita began recording on her phone and the old man tried to snatch it, following which she kept the phone away.

Suddenly, the man started kicking and punching them and even threw a heavy ceramic mug at Nikita’s face, leaving her bleeding as one of her teeth completely got knocked out. The attack caused TMJ damage to Nikita and she was had to undergo a series of dental procedures. She said that though their itinerary included Italy, they had to head home due to the injury. Karan said that they tried to leave through a back door when a man hit him. The couple ran out of the hotel and Karan spent hours at the police station while Nikita received treatment alone.

Hotel Staff Respond to Allegations

Meanwhile the hotel staff said that the couple was making false and misleading claims. They alleged that the couple were very rude and aggressive from the beginning and even demanded a free gift on arrival. They said that Nikita had even illegally recorded the staff members. She did not stop recording even when told that recording without consent is illegal in Switzerland. She kicked the staff member who told her about it and her husband also joined, the hotel staff said.

The staff alleged that one of their colleagues, aged 60 years, was attacked by Nikita and he sustained injuries including facial bleeding, nose injury and head trauma. In defence, he threw a glass which accidentally hit the woman’s tooth. The hotel, in the statement, also declared that the couple would never be welcome again. The couple said the hotel’s accusations were false and that they would pursue legal action. They demanded payment from the hotel for the medical treatment and financial loss after cutting short their 13-day trip.
