The US military recently attacked a drug-carrying submarine in the Caribbean. President Trump supported the action, saying it prevented a large amount of fentanyl and other drugs from entering the United States. He claimed that if the drugs had reached the country, around 25,000 Americans could have died.
During the operation, two people were killed, two were arrested, and a few others were sent back to their home countries like Ecuador and Colombia. Trump called the mission a major success and said the US is focusing on blocking drug routes from Latin America.
However, the president of Colombia demanded answers after reports suggested that one of the people killed might have been a Colombian fisherman. He called for a proper investigation and said legal action must follow the law.
Some legal experts say that while stopping drug smuggling is important, killing suspected traffickers without clear legal process could be against international law.
The incident has now sparked a debate between strong anti-drug actions and the need for fair legal procedures.
