The highly controversial divorce episode involving former Team India cricketer Mohammed Shami has taken a new twist as his ex-wife Hasin Jahan approached the Supreme Court asking for more alimony.
Mohammed Shami’s ex-wife approached the court stating that the cricketer is worth ₹500 crore but barely covers her expenses. She pointed out that he pays ₹1.5 lakh to her and ₹2.5 lakh to their minor daughter every month, which she claims is insufficient to meet their needs.
Hasin Jahan claimed she faces severe financial hardship while the cricketer-husband reportedly spends over ₹1.08 crore a month and donates crores to charities. She also alleged cruelty, citing a 2018 FIR filed under Sections 498A, 307, and 376 IPC, and said she has been subjected to online threats and harassment.
Hasin argued that Shami’s financial valuation allows him to afford a much higher alimony package.
However, the Supreme Court did not seem convinced by her plea. The court questioned whether ₹4 lakh per month in total was not already a fair alimony amount. Further investigation is pending, and it remains to be seen if Shami will be required to increase the payment to his ex-wife.
