AI Effect: 8000 Jobs Cut, 7000 Relocated, What’s Up?

It is already known that the technological and social platforming sectors are severely hurt by the ongoing AI revolution in the global markets. We have now received a new report about Meta,
the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram is firing several thousands of workers.

These layoff operations at Meta are starting tomorrow, May 20 and over 20% of the company workforce is likely to be seriously affected by the same.

According to the latest developments, 8,000 employees will be cut on Wednesday while another 7,000 will be transferred to AI-related teams, meaning 20% of Meta’s entire workforce is being either laid off or moved to AI divisions in a single restructuring.

More layoffs are expected later this year with a potential second round in August and another in October or November, according to some reports.

Meta has also scrapped 6,000 open roles that were never filled meaning the company has pared their hiring plans. The company had 77,986 employees at the end of March and after Wednesday, that number drops to roughly 70,000.

Along with many other companies, which are moving towards the AI revolution, Meta is likely to be realigning with the AI boom as Mark Zuckerberg is actively investing in AI oriented workforce.
