Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are embracing the latest technologies, internet services, and digital infrastructure across various sectors to stay ahead in the ongoing revolution driven by Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing.
Now, a big undersea cable system is being built to provide faster internet services. Singapore-based company Lightstorm is leading this project. The cable will be about 3,600 kilometers long. It will connect Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh and South Chennai in Tamil Nadu directly to Singapore and Malaysia.
Lightstorm CEO Amajit Gupta said that the current cable systems are getting old and new tasks like training AI and high-performance computing need very fast data networks. This new cable will give very fast internet between Singapore and Hyderabad with almost no delay. The data speed from Mumbai to Singapore will also improve by 10% to 15%.
To have a safe alternative path, the companies chose Andhra Pradesh’s Machilipatnam on the eastern coast as the main landing area. New underground fiber lines will also be built from Machilipatnam to Hyderabad, and then to Mumbai.
It is well known that massive data centres are coming up in both Telugu states. These companies will be a main users of this new cable system. Other large companies have also signed agreements to use these services.
Lightstorm already has a large underground network in India that connects more than 80 data centers. The new undersea cable service is expected to start by the fourth quarter of 2029.
