First Truck With COVID Vaccine Departed In US!

In what can be called as a historic move, Pfizer has shipped its first batch of COVID vaccine in US after FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved emergency use of vaccine to prevent the Coronavirus in individuals. Trucks of FedEx, UPS and Boyle Transportation have carried the first doses of the vaccine, authorized by FDA on Friday night, from Kalamazoo manufacturing plant of Pfizer in Portage, Michigan.

The COVID-19 vaccine, jointly developed by Pfizer & BioNTech, has proved to be 95% effective. The first batch of shipment includes 1.95 million doses of vaccine and it is being seen as biggest vaccination effort in American history. Several hundreds of local residents have gathered outside manufacturing unit and cheered at trucks as they moved out for delivery.

The pharmaceutical company has clarified that it will initially distribute 6.4 million doses of its vaccine across the U.S in the initial phase and Michigan State is set to get 84,825 doses (87 insulated boxes containing 975 doses each).

In the meanwhile, US hospitals and public health care centers are getting equipped with deep freezers to store vaccine at highly cold temperature of -94° Fahrenheit or lower.
