A single word reportedly helped Telangana police crack the shocking murder of Nagarjuna School principal Roopa Reddy in Nalgonda district.
During her last phone call with her aunt, Roopa Reddy was heard saying the word “Babu”. Investigators suspected that she could have been speaking to a student and started checking the movements of students who had been absent from school.
The investigation eventually focused on two Class 10 students from the same school. Police said one of them had a grudge against the principal after he was earlier caught with a mobile phone and cash at the hostel and was reprimanded in front of his parents.
Police suspect that money and a desire to buy expensive items also played a role. The two students allegedly planned to rob the principal and prepared for the crime by buying gloves and a knife and studying CCTV blind spots.
After school hours, one student allegedly entered the principal’s house while the other kept watch. Roopa Reddy reportedly recognized the attacker despite his mask. Fearing that she would identify him, the accused allegedly attacked her with a knife and fled with cash and her mobile phone.
Police later detained the two juveniles and recovered stolen cash, the victim’s phone and an expensive iPhone allegedly bought with the stolen money.
As both accused are minors, they were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and shifted to a juvenile home. The investigation is continuing.
