Nepal Floods: More Than 100 Indian Travellers Missing

In a shocking update, more than 100 Indian nationals are missing in Nepal due to the sudden and violent flash floods that occurred along the Tibetan border due to the overflow of Bhote Koshi river. Many of those missing went to Nepal for pilgrimage to the popular Kailash Manasarovar.

As per reports, a massive flash flood swept through northern Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the Tibet border, destroying entire villages, border markets, bridges, and key hydro infrastructure. Water from the Bhote Koshi river flowed out without warning, leaving several dead and many others stranded.

Media sources claim that 9 people are dead and hundreds are missing so far. Among those are Indian tourists and foreign nationals who went to visit Nepal for sightseeing. Dramatic visuals capturing the destruction caused by the flash floods are currently going viral on social media platforms.

The Nepal Tourism Board compiled the data from various operators and officially announced that 291 foreign nationals were among those reported missing. Indians make up the largest group of missing foreign travellers. Tourists from several other countries, including the United Kingdom, Malaysia, the United States, Australia and South Africa, are also reported missing.With floodwaters surging downstream into the Trishuli and Kosi river systems, officials in downstream regions of Nepal as well as neighboring border districts in Bihar, India, have issued high alerts.
