How a Nepal School Teacher’s Instinct Saved 1600 Children ?

Quick instincts and split-second thinking can save lives during terrible natural disasters. This has been proved again as countless stories of survival are coming out one by one after the flash floods killed more than 700 people in Nepal in the last three days.

Going into the details, 47 year old teacher and principal Rajendra Dawadi of Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nuwakot received a phone call in the morning when the ravaging flood struck a neighbouring village.

Within moments, local parents also rushed in with warnings. Realizing the extreme threat, Mr. Dawadi rang the school bell immediately, ordering all teachers to evacuate every classroom without delay. The school has nearly 1650 students in presence on that day.

He alerted bus drivers to turn back and guided children up the nearby hills on foot and motorbikes to escape the rising water. The staff and students reached safety under a large tree on higher ground just moments before the violent floodwaters hit and washed away the school buildings.

Unfortunately, a teacher and a caretaker of the school lost their lives as flood water swept the school and the surrounding area within seconds after children took shelter in a safe place beyond the reach of flood water.

Locals and parents hailed the quick response of the principal due to which over sixteen hundred children were saved from the deadly torrents.

When asked about his actions, Dawadi simply asked what else anyone in his position would have done, demonstrating true heroics in the face of sudden disaster. The story has since gone viral.
