It seems like mankind needs to be more prepared to face threats from technological advancements like humanoid robots because such automated machines can now be used not only for doing regular chores but also for criminal activities against human beings. A shocking incident has exposed this harsh reality.
Going into the details, a strange and rather alarming crime happened in the city of Cologne, Germany where a humanoid robot sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl. The incident happened when the victim was standing outside a fast-food restaurant with her friends late at night on Saturday.
According to reports, a four-foot-tall red and gold robot walked up to her from behind and touched her inappropriately. Shocked with the unusual act, the teenager screamed and backed away before calling the local police officers for help. Police arrived at the scene quickly to search for the suspects and the device.
Investigators found two youngsters on a street corner who allegedly operated the robot and later hid it in their car’s trunk. The machine was dressed up in a white shirt, sweatpants, and glasses.
Police suspect that they operated the robot remotely using their mobile phones and later recorded the entire episode on TikTok. The video shared online showed the girl screaming as the robot sexually assaulted her.
The police immediately seized the humanoid robot and two cell phones from the suspects. Investigation is currently going on to find out whether the accused intentionally controlled the robot to harass the victim. Both young men are facing serious criminal charges for sexual harassment.
