US To Restrict Travel From India Effective May 4

Amid the huge surge in the number of Covid cases in India, the US government is planning to restrict travel from India. Already many countries restricted their travel to and from India due to the giant spike of Covid cases in India. The US will be restricting travel from India effective May 4.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised the US administration to restrict travel. The White House press secretary Jen Psaki revealed the same on Friday. The US administration will issue a a 212(f) order restricting entry into the US for foreign nationals who have been in India within the previous 14 days. Airlines also have been informed about the decision, according to the sources. The policy comes to effect Tuesday 12:01 AM ET.

The policy will not affect American citizens, lawful premanent residents or other people with exemptions. Also the himanitarian workers do not get affected with the policy. As with all international travelers for now, the people who fit that criteria traveling from India must still test negative prior to leaving the country, quarantine if they have not been vaccinated and test negative again upn reentering the US from India.

India has recorded 386,452 Covid-19 cases just on Friday. India has reported more than 300,000 new cases each day for more than a week, while there is a decline in infections and deaths in the US, along with the millions of Americans getting vaccinated each day.
