Serum CEO Confesses On Pressure From Powerful People

The country is undergoing a severe health crisis and the government of India is trying to intensify the vaccination drive for all age groups. However, it is an open secret that there is a shortage of vaccines in the country. Currently, covaxin and covishield are the two vaccines that the government approved. Serum Insitute manufactures covishield and the company’s CEO Adar Poonawalla made a shocking confession about the pressure he is facing to supply the vaccine to different states in India.’

In a recent interview with Times of India, Adar Poonawalla revealed that he is getting a lot of phone calls asking for the vaccine on a high priority basis. Adar told that chief ministers, business tycoons, and many others are demanding vaccines and he termed that pressure as ‘aggressive’. Adar explained that these people are threatening him by saying that things won’t be good for him if he doesn’t oblige the demands.

The ever-increasing demand for vaccines is putting Adar in a spot. Adar is also worried about what might happen if he can’t meet their requirements. “I am doing my job and I can’t do it alone,” he confesses.

Currently, Adar Poonawalla is in London as part of his company’s business expansion plans. Adar is in plans to expand the manufacturing of the vaccine to countries outside India.

The government of India recently sanctioned him a ‘Y’ category security.
