Titanic Tourist Submersible Missing: 50 Hours Left

A submersible ‘Titan’, which is part of an OceanGate Expeditions tour went missing while it was supposed to explore the wreck of the ‘Titanic’ deep in the ocean. The submersible lost contact on Sunday only 1:45 hours after launch.

The rescue operations are currently underway and the Titanic sub had 96 hours of oxygen supply and it is already been nearly two days since the vessel went missing. Titan is designed to carry five people including one pilot. It is designed to reach depths of 2.5 miles and the Titanic lies on the seabed 2.4 miles down.

The submersible offers passengers a once-in-a-lifetime experience to explore the Titanic wreckage and it costs $250,000 for the spot and there were five passengers on board. The OceanGate Expeditions began offering this in 2021 and this is its third trip.

A Pakistan businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman were aboard the vessel. Shahzada is the vice chairman of Karachi’s headquartered conglomerate Engro. Another passenger is said to be a British Tycoon Hamish Harding who is interested in daredevil antics and already holds three Guinness World records to his name. Harding belongs to UAE and is the wealthy founder of Action Aviation.
