The Madras High Court fumed on Tamil superstar Rajinikanth who filed a petition against the Great Chennai Corporation (GCC). Going into details, Rajini owns a function hall by the name Raghavendra mandapam in Kodambakkam. The GCC has asked Rajini to pay property tax for the function which tunes up to Rs 6.5 Lakh.
Based on GCC notices, Rajinikanth went to the Madras High Court citing the Corporation’s rule that if a property was inactive commercially for over a month then a full tax amount cannot be levied on such a property. In his petition Rajini mentioned since March 24, the function hall is closed and so there is no revenue made through it. Accordingly Rajini sought to waive off the property tax.
The writ petition of Rajini came for hearing on Wednesday and Justice Anitha Sumanth fumed over this. “Instead of paying the property tax, how come a petition is filed against the corporation? For doing so we might impose a penalty against you for wasting the court’s time,” said Judge Anitha Sumanth.
Shocked by this, Rajini’s lawyer informed the court that they wanted some time to withdraw the case. But the court ordered to take back the case by today evening.
This has left Rajinikanth embarrassed.
