OTT platforms turn saviours for Dhanush and Nani

Natural Star Nani’s latest flick Tuck Jagadish skipped the theatrical release and opted for a direct digital release on Amazon Prime Video a couple of days back.

This family drama was released amidst huge expectations but turned out to be a disappointment for the audiences. People expected it to be a fresh entertainer but what they were served was old wine in a new bottle. Neither the story nor the screenplay were able to engage audiences and made the film a bore-fest.

After watching the film, many people have opined that the makers have taken a good decision by opting for a digital release. That opined that if at all the movie was released in the theatres, it would have become a disaster, ending up distributors and exhibitors in huge losses.

Even Nani would have been disappointed by his theatrical comeback. Thus, many netizens felt that the producers have done a favour to Nani and all the distributors by selling the film to Amazon Prime Video.

A few months back, Tamil hero Dhanush’s Jagame Thandhiram also received a similar response. Before the release of the movie, many people lashed out at the makers for selling it to Netflix. However, after watching the film, they felt that the producers have taken the right decision.

It looks like the producers of big-ticket films are working smart after the advent of OTT platforms and are opting for a direct digital release if at all they feel that the film may not work well at the box office. Even the streaming platforms are luring the producers by offering great deals.
