Shocking Reason Behind Sardar Uddham’s Omission From the Oscars Race!

The Film Federation of India decided to send the Tamil film Koozhangal as India’s official entry to the Oscars 2022. A jury of 15 members, headed by Malayalam filmmaker Shaji N Karun, examined a total of 14 films and chose Koozhangal as their choice.

Sherni, Sardar Uddham, Mandela, and Nayattu are some other films that were in contention. After the selection was made official, the jury was asked the reason behind the omission of Sardar Uddham.

As per the report of the Time of India, Indraadip Dasgupta, a member of the jury, said, “Sardar Udham is a well-made production with brilliant cinematography that lives up to international standards. But it is a little lengthy and harps on the Jallianwala Bagh incident.”

“It is an honest effort to make a lavish film on an unsung hero of the Indian freedom struggle. But in the process, it again projects our hatred towards the British. In this era of globalization, it is not fair to hold on to this hatred. Koozhangal in contrast is a truly Indian film with a global appeal. It has no agenda attached to it. It is the most honest film among all the contenders,” he further added.

Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Sardar Uddham features Vicky Kaushal as the lead hero.

It is the biographical drama of Sardar Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. The film had a direct release on Amazon Prime Video.
