My Behaviour Unacceptable: Will Smith Apologizes Over Oscars Slap

Will Smith

Hollywood actor Will Smith’s act at the Oscars 2022 set the tongues wagging. The ‘Independence Day’ actor had slapped Oscars host Chris Rock over a joke about the former’s wife. Will, who got emotional about Chris Rock’s joke on wife Jada Smith, came onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock. Jada Smith is suffering from Alopecia Areata, a medical condition that resulted in loss of her hair. Will couldn’t take Chris’ joke on Jada. However, he realised his mistake and tendered a public apology to Chris, producers of the show and everyone who watched it around the world.

Will Smith admitted that he was wrong. He said his behaviour was unacceptable and inexcusable. He said violence is poisonous and destructive. He also stated that he had acted emotionally. He said he was embarrassed by his action. Will said his actions were not indicative of the man he intended to be.

In a long post, Will Smith wrote, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.
I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.   I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.”

“I am a work in progress,” added Will Smith.
