Opinion: An Acid Test For Bollywood Today

From trying to beat Baahubali, right now Bollywood biggies have set a target to beat RRR and KGF2 as well as they are unable to churn out these massive mass films that have done the unthinkable at the Hindi box office. With that intent, the first attempt of Bollywood is coming up in the form of Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera which is releasing today.

The whole of Bollywood is hoping that their fortunes and future will be shaped in a different way from today if at all Shamshera hits the right notes and makes the proper sound. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film features Ranbir in two different roles of a father and son, while the whole visual effects work of this vintage-themed movie is quite impressive. So will it work at the box office?

Producers of the film are hugely confident that the film will click big time and that’s the reason Shamshera is being released in almost 4350 screens across India, while the recent highest count was seen by Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj, which was released in 3750 screens. Will the film prove its worth and make it quite big?

In the recent times, none of Bollywood’s VFX and epic films worked at the BO, while horror comedy like Bhool Bhulaiayya 2 crossed the coveted 200 crores mark, while south films like RRR and KGF2 are far ahead of those collections. Let’s see what Shamshera would do in this acid test like situation.
