Jathiratnalu emerged as a sensation. Though the director Anudeep earlier came up with the film Pittagoda, his Jathiratnalu in Swapna Cinema pushed him to fame. Anudeep got a chance to work with Tamil superstar Sivakarthikeyan for a bilingual, Prince. The movie was released and did not manage to pull off the Jathiratnalu feat, but not even close.
Many of Anudeep’s admirers are of opinion that he picked the wrong choice to make a Tamil film. Though it was made in Telugu also, Prince is predominantly considered a Tamil film. Prince is having a decent run in Tamil but is failing to attract the Telugu audience.
Anudeep made Prince in Jathiratnalu format, with similar kinds of silly yet funny jokes. The comedy sequences and dialogues remind us of Jathiratnalu, but it did not work here. The culprit is the lack of a nativity factor.
The actors like Naveen Polishetty, Priyadarshi, and Rahul Ramakrishna could understand the timing of Anudeep so well, that they excelled in what they were given to act. But the Prince having the Tamil actors mainly seems to be a setback for the concept he choose. The perfect timing of Anudeep’s comic tonic would have worked excellently with Telugu actors.
Well, even in Tamil the Prince movie did not garner a fresh and unique feeling. Though the humor in the film worked up to an extent, it mostly attracted criticism in Tamil also. Many opine that Anudeep should not have gone for a Tamil movie, at least right after Jathiratnalu.
