Amazon Prime’s Ind-NZ Tour Ad Is Going Viral

Unlike all the times when the likes of Star Sports, Ten Sports or Sony Liv buy the rights of cricket telecast for a particular season or series, this time Amazon Prime Video is entering this market in India as they have acquired the streaming rights for upcoming India’s tour of New Zealand. And to pull more cricket fans towards the OTT platform, now they are promoting it with an ad.

Apparently, this ‘ad’ sounds more like the popular ‘Mocha Mocha’ ad that was aired during the 2015 world cup. But in this commercial, the creative is that an Indian woman who married a New Zealand husband kicks him out of the bedroom every time India loses a match with them. Back in 2019, India lost to NZ in Worldcup Semis, and then in 2021, New Zealand beats India in the first World Test championship finals. The woman in the ad asks, “Kuch Badlega Kya?”. (Will something change?).

While the ad is creative as the woman don’t want to send her husband out of the bedroom, which means that she wants India to win, it is also hurting some cricket fans as it is reminding them of India’s losses. Well, let us see what happens.
