In a bid to capitalise on the Mahasivarathri holiday (Feb 18th), now heroine Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s long delayed movie, Gunasekhar’s Shaakuntalam is hitting cinemas on February 17th. However, many are wondering if this will be a worthy date chosen by the producer (Gunasekhar) and the whole and sole distributor of the film, Dil Raju.
In the first place, Samantha’s film is not alone on Feb 17th as the likes of Vishwaksen’s Dhamki and Dhanush’s first Telugu film SIR is also hitting cinemas on the same date. While Dhamki has Vishwak Sen who is known for his rigorous promotions, SIR will also get amazing promotions as it is produced by none other than Sithara Entertainment. And right now Samantha is not in a position to undertake an intense promotional activity for her movies, which makes her Saakuntalam a bit weak over the opposition.
Even trade analysts feel that Samantha should have chosen a single and isolated date such that the film would get some terrific openings. Unlike Yashodha, this movie is a romantic action story set in an epic backdrop and the star heroine’s glamorous looks might help in B & Centre, while A centres might watch for its visual effects and presentation. Let’s see what will happen.
