Global Star, Man Of Masses & International Star, The Reinvention Of Star Tags

We knew how the yesteryear biggest stars like NTR and ANR were being called the Viswavikyata Nata Sarvabhouma and Nata Samrat and that is how the admirers of those legends still refer to them. The things have changed and these days, we are seeing the change in tags more than often.

Gone are those days when the actors were given the tags by the producers and directors. The Superstars of present day award themselves a tag if not their names are not trended by the respective fans with unique ‘star’ tag.

To start with the new tag of Ram Charan trending and termed everywhere, the ‘Global Star’ is added to the RRR actor shedding his old ‘Megapowerstar’ from his name. It is not just the fans calling him so, but young generation actors like Akhil wished him the best on his birthday with the ‘Global Star’ tag. Another biggest star in Telugu, NTR has become the ‘Man of Masses’ and it went super popular after his RRR’s domination all over.

Needless to mention that ‘Stylish Star’ Allu Arjun is still the stylish, but is now the ‘Icon Star’ and the star himself calls it an upgrade after taking director Sukumar’s suggestion. Not just that, but Prabhas who is mentioned as ‘Young Rebel Star’ so far continues to be called the same, but is now the ‘International Star’ as Aswini Dutt coined it while talking about his Project K. Well, that made sense to his fans after his stardom multiplied post Baahubali.

Coming to the Senior Stars, Chiranjeevi doesn’t seem to be the ‘Megastar’, but is now the ‘Boss of Bosses’ after his recent success with ‘Waltair Veerayya’. Also the same with Balayya who is being tagged as the ‘God Of Masses’ from the last few films and the actor himself mentioned it many a time during his ‘Unstoppable’ show.

Apart from these, Mahesh Babu is still the Superstar like always and there is no change In Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Powerstar’ tag.

In the era of fans on social media involving and influencing directly with the happenings of Telugu cinema, the tags are pretty much awarded by the fans and the directors placing them in the titles is officially getting a nod from the star himself.

Apart from the change in the tags of top league actors, we are also seeing many upcoming actors being called by a variety of prefixes like ‘Nitrostar’, ‘Energetic star’ ,and even ‘Sudden Star’. It should not be a surprise if the success and genre of the films made by the stars in near future change their tags drastically.
