After Microsoft, Now Google Opens The Exit Door!

Some of the biggest tech companies in the world have been actively emphasising on the need to reduce human workforce and it was recently the case of Microsoft which offered 60,000 voluntary exits within the company.

Now we are seeing a similar development at Google as the company has started to rollout voluntary exit programmes too.

Google confirmed that since June it has offered voluntary exit packages to some staff in Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland.

As a part of this voluntary exit program has reportedly confirmed to have paid a month of salary per year worked, capped at 12 months. For example, if an employee has worked for six years with Google and wishes to take this voluntary exit program, they would be getting six months of additional pay as severance package.

In the US, those offers have come in waves since January 2025, starting with the devices unit, then HR, then Search, then the business org this February.

Much like Microsoft, even Google is reportedly investing billions of dollars in artificial intelligence alignment as the company is looking to reduce human workers while prioritising AI agents.

With some of the biggest companies in the world, actively looking to reduce the human workforce, it should be a matter of time before smaller companies completely freeze human hiring.

But at the same time, there are multiple reports that big companies are already tracking back on AI expenditure, which is significantly higher than what was expected earlier. It has to be seen, which way the world would shape up in the near future.
