Despite Censor, Film Screening Cancelled

Today marks the day of the release of the #TheKeralaStory movie, which generated considerable controversy due to its censor certificate and objections to certain scenes. The ripple effect in India was immediate.

The release of #TheKeralaStory was met with roadblocks in Kerala; most multiplexes, including PVR/Inox/Cinepolis, cancelled shows and refunded bookings without citing a reason. Despite clearance from both the CBFC and Supreme Court, the movie failed to be screened across the state except for a few locations.

In the opinion of critics and movie reviewers, #TheKeralaStory has been deemed to be distressing, and potentially leading to social unrest through its violence and disturbing scenes. Unfortunate implications for other parts of the nation have been highlighted as well.

Despite reservations about the film’s content, its lead actress Adah Sharma is publicly thanking viewers who have watched it, encouraging others to watch too.
