The Kerala Story: Director vs Kamal Haasan

The controversial film The Kerala Story is having a sensational run at the box office. By collecting more than 200 crores in five weeks, this film already became the second highest-grosser in Bollywood this year, standing next to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan.

Recently, star hero Kamal Haasan was asked about The Kerala Story when was at the IIFA Awards ceremony. While responding, Kamal said he can’t comment because he is against propagandist films. He stated that it is not enough to write ‘A True Story’ at the bottom of the film’s title and it should be really ‘true’.

Meanwhile, The Kerala Story’s director Sudipto Sen strongly reacted to Kamal’s comments. He said people who haven’t seen the film are criticizing it. In an interview with the National Media, he said, “A person is indulging in propaganda by calling it a propaganda film without watching it and making his opinion. What else would the words be than hypocrisy or petty! I have stopped explaining to them.”

The Kerala Story featured Adah Sharma in the lead role. The film was promoted to be based on the lives of Hindu women in Kerala who were forced to convert to Islam and join ISIS.
