Is It A Huge Gamble By Geetha Arts?

Akkineni Naga Chaitanya bagged the biggest box office turkey in his career with Custody and director Chandoo Mondeti scored the biggest hit in his career with Karthikeya-2. The duo is now coming together for the third time after working on films like Premam and Savyasachi. While Premam emerged as a moderate success, Savyasachi left no trace at the box office.

Allu Aravind’s Geetha Arts banner will pool resources for this film and it has been widely speculated that the story is set in the backdrop of the sea coast. Reportedly, Naga Chaitanya plays a fisherman in this period drama which is said to be a blend of action and romance.

Interestingly, Geetha Arts is taking a huge risk by shelling out more than 60 Crores of budget for this project. Naga Chaitanya’s market took a huge beating with back-to-back debacles. None of his films collected 50 Crores share in his career so far. The same is the case with Chandoo Mondeti’s films except for his Karthikeya-2 which struck a chord with North audience due to the mythology touch in its story.

Despite all this track record, Geetha Arts is willing to make the costliest film for both Chay and Chandoo. No doubt, the backing of Allu Aravind will generate strong buzz for this film in trade and the audience. But, it will need to emerge as the highest-grossing film for both Chaitu and Chandoo Mondeti to make it a profitable venture for the renowned production house.
