Rajinikanth lords over BO as Jailer takes a phenomenal opening

Rajnikanth in Jailer

Superstar Rajinikanth once again proved that his box office charisma is unassailable if directors present him in crowd-pleasing roles. His latest release Jailer is yet another example that he can still draw massive crowds to theatres irrespective of the box office result of his last outing. The Nelson Dilip Kumar directional initially didn’t make much noise. But, the smashing success of Tamannaah’s Kaavaalaa song followed by the well-crafted trailer set the tone for the film.

As per trade reports, Jailer embarked on a sensational start in all territories. The massive hype on the project translated into terrific openings and surprised all those critics and trade experts who wrote Rajinikanth off as the film didn’t create much noise in the initial days after it was announced.

In North America, Jailer took a spectacular opening as the first-day numbers including Wednesday premieres surpassed the $ 1.5 Million mark. Due to poor planning, the film fell short of the million-dollar mark with its Wednesday premieres. But, the Thursday numbers are super strong in the range of $ 550 K to $ 600K. Overall, it is a sensational start for Jailer as it took the second biggest opening in overseas after Kabali. It is going to have a strong weekend there. In all other overseas territories, Jailer made a strong start.

What came as a big surprise for trade circles is the film’s phenomenal opening in Telugu States. Reportedly, Jailer grossed close to 10 Crores on its first day which is way better than Rajini’s previous films. His market took a huge beating in recent times as most of the films ended as huge debacles. But, Jailer pulled in solid footfalls on its opening day. The positive word of mouth and decent reviews are likely to ensure a strong run for the film during the weekend despite the release of Chiru’s Bholaa Shankar.

Jailer took an impressive start in Tamil Nadu as well. Early estimates predict that Jailer is likely to be the biggest opener of Kollywood in 2023. It looks like Rajinikanth made amends with Jailer for the last two debacles that left no trace at the box office.
