Ace producer Naga Vamsi has other day breathed fire against those reviews that actually predicted doom for “Guntur Kaaram”. That topic aside, while the production house officially revealed that the film collected ₹215 crores gross so far, some box office trackers entered into a tiff with him, saying that those collections are fake. And that’s where Vamsi strikes hard now.
In response, Naga Vamsi engaged in multiple discussions with various box office trackers, questioning who, apart from the producers, would have accurate information about a movie’s collections. Some trackers insisted on having reliable sources for their data, prompting Vamsi to demand the disclosure of these sources. The Distributors and Exhibitors Union is reportedly considering legal action against certain box office trackers to compel them to reveal their sources for the reported numbers.
In the absence of established collection tracking companies akin to Rentrak and Comscore for single-screen theaters in India, particularly in the Telugu states, Vamsi has ignited a controversy over the ‘authenticity’ of the reported figures. These debates between Vamsi and the trackers are not to be taken lightly, as they may pave the way for future actions.
There are reports that the Producers Council and other stakeholders are preparing to convene a meeting to devise an action plan addressing the disclosure of a film’s true collections.
